NORTH SHORE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
THE RACE
The Race is patterned after the highly successful event in Thunder Bay and it is expected that the North Shore Dragon Boat Race is part of a race series along with the races in Duluth and Thunder Bay.
The Race is held on the Saturday of the Festival, with finals of each bracket taking place just prior to the Awards Ceremony. The race is structured so each participating team has a random chance to win at some level regardless of competitiveness. Live "paddle by paddle" coverage is provided from the spectator areas throughout the day, courtesy of WTIP Community Radio.
The day prior to race day includes a variety of evening festivities including a team parade, opening ceremonies, special food and beverage vendors, and live music. The day also includes practice time for teams. Depending upon the number of teams, a limited number of practice slots may be available Saturday morning.
Teams consist of 22 active members in the boats plus other supporting cast. Registrations are welcome at any time though space may be limited as the race day draws near. Please note that the stair-stepped registration fee structure is intended to encourage teams to register as early as possible.
